Dr Atanu Nath is a team member of the consortia composed of CERN, Brookhaven National Laboratory and Fermilab, which won the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics-2026. He was part of an international collaboration of scientists, which has been recognised for the Muon g-2 experiment. This experiment is a remarkable effort for probing the fundamental particle muon’s behaviour. The award, Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics, is valued at around USD 3 million, which is one of the highest-paying prizes in physics, offering more than double the monetary reward granted to the Nobel Prize laureates. Often called the “Oscars of Science,” this award highlights the contribution of the research team towards precision physics and global research. Dr Nath is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Tihu College, Assam.
