There is no doubt that, to a great extent, our modern lifestyle is based upon chemistry and its allied industries. About two hundred years ago, life for our ancestors was far from modern comforts. During the 20th century, there have been pathbreaking advances in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, providing undreamt-of amenities and luxuries to human society. In the 21st century also, the race for further achievements is still ongoing at a supersonic speed through industrial development for providing more comfort to present and future generations.
Each and every activity of mankind has a useful as well as harmful impact on life. Unfortunately, the industrial development based on chemicals and chemical processes is not completely safe. Invariably, it brings with it unprecedented and unforeseen dangers that are detrimental to human life and the planet. Consequently, the resulting charm of the development diminishes and eventually turns into a disaster.
