The important role played by the oceans in ensuring habitable space, food and a safe environment for all life forms is undisputed. Life owes its existence and well-being to the oceans. Our ancestors revered the oceans as the cradle of life and the provider of food and rain. Our forefathers were thankful for their important role in sustaining life and the environment by generating oxygen, acting as a carbon sink, absorbing heat generated by burning fossil fuels and being the chief climate controller.
