‘Rugda’ (Astraeus hygrometricus), a rare and wild indigenous edible mushroom, is found in the dense humid sal (Shorea robusta) forest areas of the red lateritic zone of the Chotanagpur plateau of West Bengal, comprising Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and West Midnapore districts.
