India launched the Blue Revolution during 1985-1990. The fundamental goal of the Blue Revolution, popularly known as Neelor Nili Kranti, was to develop, manage, and promote fisheries to double the farmers’ income.
Hiralal Chaudhuri and Arun Krishnan are regarded as the Father of Blue revolution in India. Chaudhuri was the architect of induced breeding and spawn production of the economically important carp Cirrhinus reba in captivity. The year 2021 was the birth centenary of Dr Hiralal Chaudhuri.
Hiralal was born on 21 November 1921 in a village named Kubajpur which was adjacent to the Surma Valley in Shrihatta. At that time Shrihatta was in Assam province of British India, now in Bangladesh and known as Sylhet.
